I started a rough outline. the goals I put down need work. the needs section has a few ideas. i put a lot of diff objectives to brainstorm on. we also need activities and a “Notes to Instructor”: a short explanatory section prefacing the grant application to help explain your project. I started to research collaboration and student achievement. What do we want to do with the $$$? Pay for in-service PD? provide teachers with a device like an iPad to allow for collaboration anywhere? I tried to send you both an invite to share the noodle bib but haven't yet figured it out.
We can work from this page and then I can copy it to a word doc and format to meet Deb's specs and send it out. FYI We have Part 2 due for Mod 9 Staff Collaboration Grant The state department of education is offering $5,000 to schools to improve collaboration among teachers, library media specialists, and administrators in order to improve students’ use of libraries and information. Priority will be given to grants that can be replicated in other schools to improve communications, planning, and collaborative teaching among staff and to grants that can demonstrate an impact on student learning and improved instruction. Write the following components of the grant: 1) Title: The Teacher Has Become the Student 2) Needs or Problem Statement: Need Statement demonstrates need for the target audience, citing at least three applicable research studies, surveys, or best practices. Only 46% of fifth graders score at or above grade level on the social studies exam The New York State School Report Card Comprehensive Information Report only 34% of students grades 3-5 are reading at or above grade level as based on the 2009-2010 English Language Arts Test scores as shown in the New York City Department of Education Progress Report. Classroom content area (science and social studies) units of study do not incorporate teaching information literacy skills to the students. Students are missing out on learning valuable 21st century aptitudes essential to their success in school and beyond. Teachers are unaware of the studies detailing the positive impact on student achievement of teacher-librarian collaboration. Also, most educators and administrators are not familiar with information literacy standards. More importantly they need to be shown how to seamlessly incorporate the standards into the work that they are already doing with their students. 3) Goals and Objectives: Two appropriate goals are developed. Goals are broad, yet relate benefits to the students. Each goal has at least two specific, targeted SMART objectives. Must be written in SMART format as described in Mod 6.) Activities/Procedures: Each objective has at least two activities that will address how the objective will be met. Activities need to be clearly aligned with/address an identified objective. One objective must evaluate student learning as related to the grant. a) Goal 1: Through in-service professional development workshops, developed by the librarian, classroom teachers will receive training in how to improve instruction by including information literacy standards in the content area studies taking place in the classroom so that students can increase their information literacy and general literacy aptitudes. i) Objective 1a (1) Activity (2) Activity ii) Objective 1b (1) Activity (2) Activity b) Goal 2: Through in-service professional development workshops, developed by the librarian, classroom teachers will receive training in how to better facilitate collaboration and communication between themselves and the librarian, other teachers, and the school administration through the use of a Wiki (define wiki) allowing them to provide students with well developed instruction to improve… i) Objective 2a (1) Activity (2) Avtivity ii) Objective 2b (1) Activity (2) Activity “Notes to Instructor”: a short explanatory section prefacing the grant application to help explain your project. Research on collaboration: From School Libraries Work by Scholastic: Resource-rich school libraries and credentialed school librarians play key roles in promoting both information literacy and reading for information and inspiration. When staffed by qualified professionals trained to collaborate with teachers and engage students meaningfully with information that matters in the real world, school libraries become sophisticated 21st-century learning environments that offer equal opportunities for achievement to all students, regardless of the socio-economic or education levels of the community.
